Make it real.
Though I'm not a trained designer,
@Vizcom_ gave me superpowers last night. "Where Design Begins" was the most curated gallery I've been to where I could actually play with everything. At most galleries I get in trouble for touching, or even getting too close.
It lives at the intersection of AI, design, makers, 3D printing, software, and hardware. I sketched. I talked with the people who actually make the work. I picked things up, held them, tried them on, wore them.
The community they've built is dense with designers, users, and customers who traveled to share their learnings, their tech stack, and their vision.
My favorite conversation was with Tim Downing, a customer. He's a footwear design engineer at Zellerfeld Shoe Company Inc., previously at New Balance and Stratasys, and one of the most creative, entrepreneurial, high-agency people I've met. His feedback on going from a 2D sketch to a real 3D model was spot on. Getting from an idea to a manufacturable 3D model takes a very specific, rare kind of talent. Very few people in the world can actually do it. If we can crack that last gap and make the path from sketch to 3D to real feel obvious, we hand that superpower to everyone, and anyone with an idea.
If you want to get your hands dirty and make things, go see it today through June 11. Link in the comments.
