“Team Open“ but only supports Windows for desktop… yea okay
Tim Sweeney’s list of enemies appears to be expanding.
For years, the Epic Games CEO has criticized Apple over App Store fees, Google over Play Store policies, and closed console ecosystems. Now, he is warning about Roblox and the rise of powerful creator platforms.
His perceived list of targets includes:
>Steam
>Apple App Store fees and restrictions.
>Google Play Store policies.
>Console platform holders closed ecosystems.
>Roblox as an example of a centralized creator platform.
Speaking at Unreal Fest 2026, Sweeney warned that the industry is heading toward two possible futures.
One view of the future is that Roblox grows and eats gaming
He argued that Roblox is “a centralized platform with a single keeper that commoditizes all content, takes more than 70% of revenue, and has 450 million users on board.”
“That’s a real challenge to game developers,” Sweeney added.
As an alternative, he proposed “Team Open,” saying the industry has “the opportunity to form up Team Open and define the future of gaming together again.”
