Washington has been welcoming the world to play the world's game here since 1949. Here, Sweden's AIK is greeted upon landing in Seattle to play Vikings SC in 1951. By the end of June, clubs and national teams from 45 FIFA members will have visited WA. #TBT

We share some sad news. A true pioneer and force in establishing the women's game in Washington, Bernadette Noonan has passed away. Here, Bernadette's pictured (left) at a WA Legends event in 2016.

It's down to the final four in boys' 4A, 3A, 2A and 1A this weekend. Who will be left on Saturday to pose with a bracket and the trophy, such as Eastlake, here in 2011? #TBT

There's a chance Norway could visit Seattle for a Group Stage match July 1. But The Sons of Norway donned their work shirts and studs here 78 years ago. Now this: 'The Beautiful Game: How Soccer Connects Us All' is MOHAI's next exhibit, running May 23-Sept 7. Check it out. #TBT

It's both Mothers' Day and the semifinals/finals for Washington Youth Soccer's girls state championships this weekend. Have a look at these 2003 state winners, some who now might very well be moms themselves. #TBT

Fifty years ago professional soccer first came to The City of Destiny. Booth Gardner's striped Tacoma Tides played one glorious season at Cheney Stadium, making the ASL playoffs and many memories before dissolving. #TBT

Those who love our game and love our state and love how the game has taken root in our state, you will want to pick up a copy of Sunday's (April 26) Seattle Times. Then you will have this story to have and to hold, even when the wifi is on the fritz. seattletimes.com/pacific-nw-…

We would like to thank Mayor Birney, her City of Redmond staff and particularly Kristen Raftis for hosting our own Frank MacDonald and Matt Pentz for the April 15 Fútbol for All program. A great turnout, and there are two upcoming May programs in this series. Check it out.

The green, green grass awaits the return of the Reign this Sunday, and our first opportunity to celebrate them home, in Seattle. And for the 14th and final season, a "tiny Welsh Dragon" shall lead them. #TBT

It will be the same matchup and pretty much same address, but when the Sounders host St. Louis on Saturday the surface (grass) and ceiling (no longer concrete) will be much different than 50 years ago. #TBT

Curious about of the history of soccer in our region? Join two locals, Matt Pentz, a former soccer reporter for The Seattle Times and The Athletic, and Frank MacDonald, historian and executive director for Washington State Legends of Soccer, to hear about the state’s history of the game and what’s changed since the last time the World Cup was played in the United States. The event will take place from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 15, at the Redmond Senior & Community Center (8703 160th Ave NE). Light snacks and refreshments will be provided, along with prize drawings. The World Cup tournament has also seen many changes since the last time it was played in the United States in 1994. The 2026 tournament marks the largest World Cup ever played, with 48 teams set to compete in matches across the U.S., Canada, and Mexico.
