#SierraLeone remains in a challenging position according to the Global Hunger Index 2024. The country ranks 117th out of 127 countries assessed, with a GHI score of 31.2, placing it in the "serious" hunger category. While Sierra Leone has made some progress since 2000, reducing its GHI score from 57.2, the current situation shows that hunger is still a critical issue. This ranking indicates that despite efforts to improve #foodsecurity, undernourishment, child stunting, wasting, and mortality continue to be significant challenges.
The country faces severe food insecurity due to factors such as economic instability, high inflation, and reliance on imports for essential foodstuffs. The impact of climate change and its effects on agricultural productivity, as well as limited access to basic services, further exacerbate the situation. With 39.8% of the population undernourished and child wasting and stunting rates alarmingly high, efforts to combat hunger remain vital for Sierra Leone’s future development. #saloneX. read the full report - globalhungerindex.org/rankin…
