The Contract Teaching Faculty Bargaining Unit of WLUFA will be in a legal strike position on Monday, February 23, 2026 should a settlement not be reached by that time. The decision to obtain a strike mandate was not taken lightly. Faculty would rather be in the classroom than on the picket line. Laurier's Contract Teaching Faculty care deeply about the quality of your education and will disrupt classes and our other work only as α last resort."

The Wilfrid Laurier University Faculty Association (WLUFA) is the certified bargaining agent for Full- Full-time Faculty Contract Teaching Faculty, and Professional and Part-time Librarians. Who are Contract Teaching Faculty? Contract Teaching Faculty (generally called Contract Faculty) are instructors hired on a course-by-course -course contract basis, for each term. Their employment ends with each contract."

The main issues include working conditions, job security, and compensation, which affect the quality of education and the University's ability to be competitive in attracting and maintaining highly qualified faculty. Our working conditions directly impact the student learning environment. WLUFA Contract Faculty represent less than 6% of Laurier's overall operating costs, yet taught over 40% of undergraduate courses in 2024/2025 Laurier can choose and afford to invest in the Contract Faculty they rely on to deliver almost half of undergraduate teaching."

We know this would disrupt students and the wider university community, and we do not take that lightly. If a deal is not reached, α strike is a last resort to show the value of Contract Faculty work and to push for a fair agreement."
