We are the Wales Net Zero 2035 Challenge Group, invited by Welsh Government and Plaid Cymru to explore how the country can speed up its transition to net zero.
We will be publishing seven reports:
1. A summary report: Pathways to a prosperous and resilient Wales in a changing future.
2. Enabling the transition to net zero in Wales by 2035. 3. What could education, jobs and work, look like across Wales by 2035?
4. How could Wales feed itself by 2035?
5. How could Wales meet energy needs by 2035 whilst phasing out fossil fuels?
6. How could Wales heat and build homes and workplaces by 2035?
7. How could people and places be connected across Wales by 2035?
📢📢📢
The Wales Net Zero 2035 Challenge Group is launching a further open call for evidence on cross-cutting themes that support a net zero transition. Such as finance, nature, a just transition and technology.

Today we are launching our 5th Challenge: What could education, jobs and work look like across Wales by 2035?
Please see further information, including on our open call for evidence at: netzero2035.wales/2023/11/08…#walesnetzero2035#futuregen
@jruddchemist cochair for the Challenge said: “We’re developing pathways to recommend how Welsh Government could become Net Zero by 2035 wrt. education and skills. If you work in this area please contribute your evidence at:netzero2035.wales/submit-evi…
@jruddchemist “We’re looking forward to reading and reflecting on everybody’s responses and learning more about the wealth of experience in and the true potential of Wales.”
The @WNZ2035 Group's 4th challenge is now live and is actively seeking evidence on digital and transport: How could people and places be connected across Wales by 2035? 🚆
Our CAST Director @lwhitmarsh, a member of the group, shares her views on why to get involved:
ALT A blue and white graphic featuring a photograph of Prof Lorraine Whitmarsh next to a quote from her about the WNZ 2035 Challenge 4 which reads:
"Reaching net zero emissions in mobility by 2035 requires radically rethinking how we connect with people and places – where there may be opportunities to replace physical travel with digital connectivity, as well as travelling by sustainable modes and using green vehicle technologies.
We want to learn from successful initiatives both here in Wales and elsewhere in the world to explore how we can rapidly and sustainably cut emissions from mobility."
continued (1): “We want to learn from successful initiatives both here in Wales and elsewhere in the world to explore how we can rapidly and sustainably cut emissions from mobility."
continued (2): Our lives are now shaped by cars, and they now dominate our roads leading to increased air pollution, social isolation, sedentary lifestyles, biodiversity loss and climate change.”
Anyone working in low carbon travel and or digital connectivity please get in touch with your evidence and research to help @WNZ2035 to best advise Welsh Gov on how we can connect people and places across Wales with as low a carbon footprint as possible by 2035.
Eurgain continued: “We have a huge opportunity to change this and create opportunities for people to connect in ways that are better for our health, communities and our planet.”
