Amazing job by the latest group from Balerno HS, this time S2&3, who braved the rain today to help remove litter from around the school and surrounding streets, from Malleny Park car park, and from the WoL walkway, preventing 7 bags of rubbish from entering the river. Legends🙌💪

Managed to photograph this hare on the upper catchment of the Water of Leith this morning. It's a rare occurrence, as they normally spot me long before I spot them!! #WaterOfLeith #EdinburghWildlife #UrbanWildlife #WildlifePhotography #edinburgh

A very productive session around Waulkmill Loan today trimming back vegetation to widen the path, litter picking, refreshing drainage ditches, and wading the river to treat invasives and pull out rubbish. Great effort by everyone involved, thanks folks! 😎

Just over two more weeks of schools outdoor learning before the holidays. The classroom will have seen almost 40 classes pass through as they connect to their local river and woodlands.

Light at the end of the tunnel for the woods next to the Union canal at Calder Road. For the 2nd year in a row our volunteers removed another huge piles of rubbish that have built up inc a @McCoys crisp packet from 2008. Small steps to a healthier wood. @Edinburgh_CC

Thanks to everyone who attended our monthly clean-up in Leith today. We had help from groups from Aberdeen plc, Scottish Enterprise, and Revenue Scotland, along with our commited regular volunteers. Litter, graffiti, steps, paths and meadows all given attention, despite the rain!

Outdoor learning always embraces the unexpected. P4s looking for bugs yesterday were entranced by water droplets on lady’s mantle, held in place by tiny hairs on the leaves.

Back on the Murrayburn for our 3rd visit to dig and spray the Giant Hogweed behing the garden centre, it just keeps coming! Dealt with hundreds of plants, and also sprayed a large stand of Japanese Knotweed. Great progress made but still lots to do! 🌿🚿♠️

An enjoyable small team session at Larchgrove, just on the edge of Balerno. We found a healthy riverfly population in the John burn. Then destroyed several small stands of Himalayan balsam as we start to explore the upper reaches of the river. #upstreambattle @Edinburgh_CC
