I have no problem being slightly more aggressive with playing Ramirez to see if his hot streak is something more and playing all three other infielders (Bregman, Dansby, Nico) slightly less but I’d caution being so quick to take Dansby’s glove out of the lineup.
You play Ramirez at second and Nico at short, you get worse defense at both up the middle infield spots. I think using Ramirez as a Tony Phillips and moving all around the infield and DH for like 4-6 games a week should be sufficient for now
Right now, most of the Cubs problem is that people aren’t hitting. Period. Not Dansby, not Nico, not Bregman, not Suzuki. It isn’t because they aren’t hitting with RISP, that is immaterial. They need to hit period.
Hi Andrew. What we’ve seen is this. PCA is a good major leaguer. A solid regular even when he’s hitting poorly this. That is due to his great defense and base running.
But when he’s also hitting like he actually is this year, he is one of the best players in baseball.
Pete Crow-Armstrong since the 2025 All-Star break:
291 AB
.213 / 7 HR / 29 RBI / 12 SB
85 K : 14 BB
I no longer have to fight for my life in saying PCA is not a good MLB hitter. The war is over...
Really good looking hitter. Without delving too deep into it, gives me Matt Stairs vibes. Might be one of the best hitting prospects in the minors. Doesn’t have a position really. Probably a first baseman as far as I can tell. Cubs farm hand hitters have had a good year
The Cubs have been absurdly unlucky this year. I know that doesn’t comport with those who watch them day after day but since there is no “skill” to his with runners on base, there is no reason to think the Cubs are bad at it. Just unlucky.
Most runners left on base this season in MLB
1. Alex Bregman - 143
2. Colson Montgomery - 139
3. Ian Happ - 138
.
.
.
7. Seiya Suzuki - 129
The Cubs are the only team with multiple players in the top 10
It’s irritating to me that people are already out in this guy after like 60 games when he has a 1000 game career proving he’s a good player. It’s possible he’s Nolan Arenado and not good anymore but I think just saying “let’s cut him” or “he’s a bust” is shortsighted right now
Cubs getting the whole unlucky package. Low RISP, poor HR/FB data. In top of the fact they have suffered huge pitching injuries and the good hitters are all on a slump, ends with your team going 6-19 or whatever for a month. A bunch of this stuff will start evening out IMO
This is funny to me. Thing is, someone like PCA doesn’t have to be as good a hitter to provide value. Tucker plays a corner outfield spot and needs to hit much better without taking into account that PCA is a great defender at the position and not just adequate.
So when people say “he’s just an average hitter”, they are telling on themselves, being an average hitter makes PCA one of the most valuable players in the game because of multiple reasons:
1) He plays an important position
2) He is great at it
3) He’s a fantastic base runner
