While we have partners all over New England, we especially love working with our neighbors.
Earlier this week, we had the opportunity to help Peabody's Citizens Inn (@citizensinn) with their storage needs. (That's Executive Director Corey Jackson giving us the thumbs up.) (1/2)
Citizens Inn provides shelter and support services to almost three dozen families at a time 35 families at a time and provides food to nearly 6,000 individuals each year through its through its pantry and meals program.
Neighbors helping neighbors. π
This system dramatically reduced the cost of loading and unloading a ship. In 1956, manually loading a ship cost $5.86 per ton; the standardized container cut that cost to just 16 cents a ton.
Containers also made it much easier to protect cargo from the elements or thieves, since they are made of durable steel and remain locked during transport."
