Burning wood is devastating for people’s health - both burners and their neighbours. It produces PM2.5, long term exposure to which increases the risk of dying of cancer by over 20%. Great reporting by @emilynstearn. dailymail.co.uk/health/artic…

People in cars, taking pictures of other people in cars, complaining about the number of cars holding up their car.
Why would anyone come into Belfast with that traffic?? It’s absolutely insane!!! I’ve been in the car from 5pm and I’ve just come from Ormeau Road!!

Every winter, #MotherNature ❄️ reveals how much we over-designed our streets for cars. But if we look carefully, she also inspires us to create healthier and more equitable streets for all! 📍- Philadelphia🇺🇸, S 4th & Monroe St. (📸 by @quantum_mystic | Animation by @otucis)

“When it comes to cars, that finding suggests that a shock like a road closure might be enough to finally force people to take action and change how they commute.” slate.com/technology/2024/12…
Why it’s psychologically hard to switch to public transit or biking. “Over time, land use and infrastructure quality will largely dictate how people travel. But nudges can tilt decisions…can lead people to adjust habits before they otherwise would have.” slate.com/technology/2024/12…

WATCH: Seriously, if you’re following ANY bike-lane debate, you HAVE TO WATCH this news story. Politician claims without evidence that bike-lanes are bad for small business, and THE ACTUAL BUSINESS ASSOCIATION obliterates him with data. Great, @citynewsTO. toronto.citynews.ca/video/20…

Amsterdam’s plan to remove 11,200 parking spaces from its streets by the end of 2025 is even more inspiring when we realize the kind of people-places that are possible where cars used to be. Example — #Amsterdam’s Elandsgracht between 2014 & 2019, via @schlijper’s great pics.

Bike-lanes don’t cause traffic congestion. Car dependency, land-use sprawl, too many cars driving too much taking up too much space, highly subsidized driving costs, and not enough choices in how to get around, ALL cause traffic congestion. Think about it. THAT’S common sense.
