Granny’s No Sauce Mac and Cheese with Crayfish Tails. It’s basically 4 layers in a baking tray, each with cooked pasta, grated cheese, mustard powder, white pepper, cream and dots of butter - I used a mix of Old Amsterdam and Canadian Cheddar. Details on m’Insta page.

Movie night, (Big Trouble in Little China, 1986), with Sichuan Noodles and slow-cooked Aberdeen Angus. The beef was seared then simmered in dashi, mirin and peppercorns for three hours, then mixed with a little Lao Gan Ma, pak choi, Sichuan oil and green chillies. Lips are numb.

Movie night, (Blazing Saddles, 1974) with Roast Goat, Roast Potatoes and Chimichurri. The meat and potatoes were cooked with rosemary and garlic, and I placed the goat on a rack above the tatties to allow the juices to drizzle down on them. I’m serving green beans on the side.

When Mum and Dad passed away last year, I found this letter in their bedroom. I’m pretty sure it kick-started their 60 year relationship - Mum was clearly besotted.

🦐 Movie night (Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom), with King Prawn Balti Curry. Garam masala, green/red peppers, roasted cashew nuts, tamarind, garlic tomatoes. A cheat tandoori - raw prawns are added with the sauce and placed in a hot oven until they char a little on top.

Movie Night (The Third Man), with Chicken Schnitzels, Lemon and Sage. These are fillets, sliced horizontally and pleasingly bludgeoned. They’re dredged in flour, egg and panko breadcrumbs and gently fried in good butter mixed with a little oil - I dropped the sage in last minute.

Movie night, (The Last Emperor) with Leftover Chicken Ravioli, Mushrooms & Balsamic Brown Butter Sauce. Yesterday's chicken, minced with garlic, tarragon, S&P, and a little crème fraîche. The sauce is chicken stock, balsamic vinegar, a bucketful of butter and mushroom ketchup.

Movie Night (Gran Torino), with Breaded Mackerel and Miso Lemon Butter Sauce. The fishmonger didn’t have any samphire today, so I’ve unearthed some frozen asparagus from a corner of the freezer - it was blanched before freezing. Recipe for the sauce attached.

Movie night (Jaws) with Ramenesque Chicken and Noodles. This is a mongrel dish, if I’m honest - part katsu, part ramen and I’ve attached the recipe for the broth. It’s finished it off with a jammy egg, a few green chillies, fried mushrooms and Lao Gan Ma from a jar. #Chicken .

I’ve escaped for New Year - because, if I’m honest, 2025 can do one. I arrived in Marrakech yesterday and managed to get lost in about 20 minutes. Lovely vibe though and I’ll probably spend the next few days getting lost again. And buying tat I don’t even like.

Movie night (My Name is Joe), with Venison Curry and Green Masala Potatoes. Cracking haunch meat from a local butcher, marinated in oil, ground fennel seeds, Kashmiri chilli powder and ground cardamom then seared in a ferociously hot pan for a few minutes. More on m’Insta.

Movie night (Voyage to Italy, with Ingrid Bergman) and Pappardelle with Mushrooms. It’s really simple - finely chopped shallots, chicken stock, a measure of brandy your doctor would frown at, a couple of crushed garlic cloves, plenty black pepper, crème fraîche & grated parmesan.

Movie night (Gandhi) and Lamb Meatball Curry with Black Beans. I reckon it’s wise to buy more minced lamb than one considers ample. Meatballs shrink, but encouragingly, they don’t miraculously vanish when cooked. Unlike spinach, for example. Recipe on m’Insta. #Saturday #Curry
