The company I work for just gave merit raises.
Based exactly on perf. Review. Most of my employees got 3 or 3.5.
So the company gives exactly that percentage, 3% or 3.5%
I’ve never seen this method. It’s a token raise. Essentially useless.
I feel badly for my employees.
Told one of my dev teams we have a PoC to do. They were silent.
They are really good but have no clue how to do semi-structured work. They think in tickets.
Have to take a different approach.
We still think of shipping code to end users.
The end users will soon be AI, or at least a human interacting with AI.
We need to think differently about deployment.
Definitely in the let compounding do the work phase.
Investments are earning more per year, even at conservative 6%, than I am allowed to contribute.

Self employed 2014-2021. Billable work came to a steady $13,200/month.
Switched to full-time with a company (two different ones)
Monthly income $13,300 since then.
I’m good if it stays there, just weird.
Used KIRO to write some payments integration. When a bug occurred, had Copilot check. It made corrections.
KIRO and Copilot were almost arguing over whose code was better.
Re created my old website using KIRO in about 30 minutes.
It took an asp.net webforms app, modernized it using Nextjs.
Deployed to an Azure Static Web App.
It configured my domain named in a hosted DNA zone in Azure in another 15 minutes
