Ending today, the @theNASEM held 2 days of mtgs on #LongCOVID & the big take-home messages: -It's FAR more widespread & complex than is generally realized -Patients experience stigma from MDs & employers -Doctors can't get reimbursed -There is no standard of diagnosis or care.

This paper about the impact of #longCovid on language & cognitive function is frankly devastating. A couple examples of how affected individuals fared when confronted with photos of objects & asked to name them. Lots of struggling & pauses. #MedTwitter sciencedirect.com/science/ar…

On the Titan, five people died on an expensive excursion. Off the coast of Greece, perhaps 500 people fleeing poverty and violence died. The rescue efforts, and the attention paid to each, fueled a debate about the realities of class and ethnicity. nyti.ms/3CLiPjl

DYK that SNAP helps people put food on the table? SNAP plays a critical role in reducing hunger, malnutrition, and poverty. SNAP improves family security, child and adult health, employment, and other outcomes. #SNAPMatters

Bottom line: #WorkRequirements don't work. Research has demonstrated this for decades.
Veterans and homeless people may have difficulty collecting proper documentation to prove their exemptions as part of the complex, state-by-state process of securing SNAP benefits, said FRAC's @emv52. reuters.com/world/us/us-food…

It is inspiring to see the growing engagement with #WorldEnvironmentDay in the #GlobalHealth & #HumanRights communities. We are all in this together.
Call to action on #WorldEnvironmentalHealthDay: “it is imperative that the public health community join with the human rights community” With UNGA declaring a human right to a healthy environment, we examine what #HumanRights brings to #EnvironmentalHealth bmj.com/content/378/bmj.o231…

Disappointing and predictable. We are whitewashing higher education and re-writing some pretend narrative that erases lived experiences and history.

They contended that children were at no risk. Tell that to 1600 children who have died, 14,000 hospitalized, 9,000 with MIS-C, and the mounting number of children experiencing post- and long-covid effects. And don't forget the 245,000 who lost parents. x.com/DrCanuckMD/status/1661…

Don't wait, vaccinate. #VaccinesSaveLives
This is terrible and awful. 25% Long-COVID in children and adolescents. My go-to study for children was 4.8%. Early in the pandemic adult studies showed very high rates of Long-COVID. But unvaccinated populations. We haven't been vaccinating children. nature.com/articles/s41598-0…

Anti-LGBTQ conservatives see reports of children being abused in the Catholic Church, the Southern Baptist Convention, the Boy Scouts of America, and by numerous GOP politicians, and they think: "You know what kids need protection from? Shirts with rainbows on them at Target."
