I just flipped the switch on my revamped site. I'm not afraid of Friday production releases 🤣 Here's my first post in almost 7 years –
Hello again (and a new look) ashleynolan.co.uk/blog/hello…
We're hosting the Pixel Pioneers Warm-up at JET's Bristol office next Thursday 18th June, with talks from Molly India Nye, Jamie Maguire and Marwa Gorvan.
The event is free – grab your ticket here: ti.to/pixel-pioneers/bristol…
It's been a while, but I've been working on updating my site so that I can start posting again.
To give an idea of how ancient the old code is, it uses RequireJS, Grunt, and floats for CSS layout (everywhere).
Releasing it will be like removing a huge weight from my back 😆
I've decided to have a dabble into the world of making video content.
If you're interested in HTML/CSS/JS, AI coding tips and tutorials, and just frontend topics in general, subscribe to my new channel, Frontend Guidelines.

My aim is to make short videos for devs (like me) who don't always have the time to watch a 30-minute deep-dive explainer.
If there are any topics you'd like me to cover, let me know!
I built a thing!
For any parents who know what a Yoto Player is, I submitted an entry for their Developer Challenge – Animal facts! It's a dynamic card app that updates daily with new animal facts.
If you (or your kids) have a Yoto, check it out! #yotoyoto.space/developers/post/a…
I mainly built this as an excuse to show my eldest daughter how things get made with code, but I actually learnt a ton from making it too.
There's a small technical info section on the Yoto card page, which explains how the application is built.
Also, if you do like it (and have a Yoto account), please hit like at the bottom of the Yoto space page – I'd really appreciate it!

I'm really interested to hear devs' thoughts on this – When interviewing, do you prefer Live Coding or Take Home tests?
I've made a poll on Reddit, which would be great if you could respond to, but I'd love to hear any thoughts here too!

The State of JavaScript Survey always provides an interesting look at the JS world. Make sure you fill out the 2024 Survey if you use JS in some way survey.devographics.com/en-U…#js
Looking forward to taking part in Figma's "In The File" livestream next week. I'll be talking about globalising JET's Design System, PIE, and why we've been moving to use native web components to replace our current React and Vue component systems:

ALT Join us on May 2nd at 4pm CET. Unlocking Unity: Just Eat Takeaway's Evolution towards a global Design System
I love the sentiment of a global design system – but as someone working with Web Components I think there are a few issues that would need resolving (through WC specs) before being actually possible for big companies to adopt

Excited to be talking at #DSDay23 later today!
I'll be going through the work we've been doing at JET this year moving our design system to Web Components
I don’t get surprised much by the internet anymore, but rebranding one of the great online brands to ‘x’ both surprises me and makes me sad at the same time.
More and more this place feels like an empty shell of what it once was
Had an awesome catchup with the @Adobe Spectrum Web Component team today. Great to get some insight from another team using @buildWithLit out in the wild production world!
Watching @CSSDayConf Remotely today. Really excited to see all the exciting things coming to CSS at the moment – and so great to have a Conference dedicated to CSS!
