Here is the simple reason: Fifteen months ago, Senate Republicans voted to confirm Todd Blanche as the Deputy Attorney General. According to federal law: "The Deputy Attorney General is authorized to exercise all the power and authority of the Attorney General, unless any such power or authority is required by law to be exercised by the Attorney General personally." In other words, the Senate has already voted to give Todd Blanche almost all the powers of the Attorney General. And he's done nothing over the last 15 months that demonstrates he's unqualified for the job. In fact, he's served as the Acting Attorney General for the last several months.
