Two of my biggest product pet peeves right now: 1) Literally cannot create a group in @instagram chat, 2) Unable to bulk edit the ‘watch later’ playlist in @youtube. Basic functionality in my opinion that should encourage repeat usage

Most of my waking hours are spent thinking about SaaS go-to-market, and my work at @PrimaryVC has afforded me great pattern recognition around where GTM work most frequently goes wrong for early-stage businesses. Today I'm excited to share the most common pitfalls we see. 🧵🧵
Tony Fadell co-created the iPhone.
In his book, Build, he explains why product management and product marketing should be the same role.
"Your messaging is your product. The story you're telling shapes the thing you're making."
I've always believed this as someone who did both.

On "hacking" your way to progress.
Hack for getting rich: save.
Hack for getting strong: lift weights.
Hack for getting fast: run.
Hack writing: write.
Hack for learning: read.
Hack for self-awareness: meditate.
Hack for motivation: build community.
Hack for recovery: sleep.
A big misconception is that you need to be motivated to get rolling.
You don't.
Research: Motivation often FOLLOWS action, not the other way around.
In Practice: You don't need to feel good to get going; you need to get going to give yourself a chance at feeling good:
Take your work seriously, but not yourself.
Making progress, being consistent, and doing hard things is hard enough without being unkind to yourself or others.
Have fun. Maybe not every day, but on the whole, yes. If you aren't having fun then you are doing it wrong.
Startups are a search for truth.
The purpose of a startup is to experiment constantly in the service of finding the best answer to pressing problems.
In aggregate, a company discovering the truth of the customer will make or break its success.
Random thought today: Does Shopify buy FedEx? Probably an anchor / not but they already fixed their visibility problem with Shop and have 6River aka Kiva Systems 2.0 🤔
True success is not a dollar amount, type of watch, or square footage of a house.
True success is knowing your values and building a life around them. True success is cultivating autonomy over your time and energy. True success is being present for what matters to you.
Here's a slide @nrmehta and the @GainsightHQ marketing team will love -- at $30M scale half of new ARR is expansion from existing customers. #customersuccess
