Speaking of acclaim for Cape Verde, listening to BBC Radio Five Live ahead of our game, Pat Nevin was singing their praises to the heavens. I think he's a fan.
Pico Lopes and Cape Verde absolutely magnificent today against Spain. What well-deserved praise.

In what way is the viewer experience different if the BBC is in Salford commenting on a match in Boston 3,000 miles away and ITV is in Brooklyn commenting on a match on California, 3,000 miles away?
The @BBC has its World Cup presenters in a Salford studio whilst ITV will be live from New York. Licence fee payers deserve better. The BBC has trebled the number of people earning more than £100k in the last 5 years. Any good business would make cuts to senior management, not the viewer experience.

Cape Verde goalkeeper Vozinha had 50,000 followers before his amazing performance vs. Spain and this was his reaction to seeing how many he has now. The motion of the World Cup 😭🔥

🇨🇻😢 Cape Verde goalkeeper Vozinha: "I cried after the game because I grew up with my grandparents when I was a kid, and they could not be there. They passed away a few years ago. My mum could not be here either for a VISA issue, and the money we had to pay for it. We did not manage to do this in time." (@TheAthleticFC)

This is so wholesome! Per the tradition, before the start of their World Cup tomorrow, the France players posed for the photo with the shirt of their first ever club, like AS Bondy for Mbappé and Saliba, Paris FC for Konaté, Sevran for Mateta… ❤️ @equipedefrance @FrenchTeam

Lukaku’s arrival made a big difference, and instantly too. But overall Belgium not at the races today. A good point for Egypt, and probably should have been more. #BELEGY #WorldCup

Are Belgium going to be hit by the curse of the Pharoahs? They are so far…

It’s the home of the Seahawks for Belgium and Egypt’s big World Cup kick-off. Heading for 32 Celsius at high noon, live in 90 pan-Africa on @sportytv with me and Stephane Jauny. On YouTube too.

Pierre Sage did a wonderful job at Lens, building a superb side, pushing PSG, winning French Cup, reaching CL... all in one season. But the fact he's left already, to manage Crystal Palace - a smaller club, in Europa League - is a worrying reflection of life outside PL bubble. Sage's choice is understandable (on a financial level at least): Palace have quadrupled his salary. He now also gets to pit his wits against many of the best managers in football (although managing Lens in CL would've been equally challenging and more exciting still IMO). Plus, after being crowned Ligue 1 coach of the season, he knows that now is the time to cash in. But where does this leave Lens (who gave Sage a fantastic opportunity & the tools to succeed after he had been sacked by Lyon)? How can they now hope to keep talents like Sangaré, Risser and Baidoo when the coach jumps ship at first opportunity? And most concerning, where does this leave Ligue 1? How can this league hope to generate sustained competition for PSG when a team is dismantled after the most fleeting of successes? #CPFC #RCL

The rise of Deniz Undav, from regional football in Germany to the second division in Belgium to hitting the heights at the World Cup. It's been a glorious few short years.
Deniz Undav was subbed on in the 64th minute for Germany and grabbed a goal and two assists. He's the first player since James Rodríguez vs. Japan in 2014 to have 1G, 2A off the bench in a World Cup match🔥

These ‘hydration breaks’ are fundamentally warping the World Cup. Curacao had just enjoyed perhaps the highlight so far with that equaliser against Germany and were on the attack again. Then three minutes to promote a laptop brand, and momentum is handed straight back. Wretched.

Most people watch the World Cup from cafe or a couch. Türkiye fans watch it at 6:00 AM from a 2,000-year-old ancient theatre facing the sea. 🇹🇷🌅 Football with a view like this hits different. 😮
