Very much this.
I think one of the worst things the internet did to reading was turn it into a pathetic competitive sport. You don’t need a 45 book goal. You just need to read what you actually like, at your own pace, and let the ideas sink in longer than a fleeting Instagram reel.

After the art opening on Thursday night, I went by Mayes to see the Oakland band Damage Party play. They were fun, and even though I was fairly drunk, I got what I think are some pretty good pics...Maybe I can pick up a second gig as a photojournalist for the local scene.

So, the last time I went to AWP, the host of a reading I took part in chastised me for not having a website, or a "hub" on the internets, so I broke down and built myself one. It's currently basic, but it functions and isn't totally ugly.

I've always hated "National Poetry Month." Poets are plenty self-absorbed and obnoxious throughout the other 11 months of the year as it is. We don't need to encourage them.
