I am saddened by the passing of Mama Zipporah Kosgey, beloved wife of former Tinderet MP Henry Kosgey. My heartfelt condolences go to my friend Kosgey, the children Allan, Charlene and Alexander, and the entire family at this tough time of grief. Mama Zipporah was a devoted wife, mother and matriarch whose love, strength and kindness touched many lives. As you mourn her passing, know that our thoughts and prayers are with you. Savings and credit cooperative organisations are engines of grassroots wealth creation. Over the years, the cooperative movement has driven agricultural transformation, expanded access to affordable finance, created jobs, supported industrialisation and accelerated the growth of small and medium enterprises. Launched Shirikiana Sacco at Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology, Kakamega County. The sacco is already proving to be a powerful vehicle for financial inclusion and economic empowerment in Western Kenya. Registered only last January, it has already attracted more than 12,000 members and built a network of promoters across 190 wards in Kakamega, Bungoma, Busia, Vihiga and Trans Nzoia counties. These numbers show the scale and promise of the movement. Across the country, saccos have more than 8 million members and command assets worth over KSh1 trillion.

Nationally, our savings have increased commendably under the National Social Security Fund, rising from KSh312 billion in 2023 to more than KSh700 billion.

To strengthen the cooperative movement, we are undertaking a major legislative overhaul to modernise governance, reform regulatory oversight, and protect members’ deposits and assets.

It is with profound sorrow that I have learnt of the passing of Hon. Gideon Konchellah, former Member of Parliament for Kilgoris and a distinguished Cabinet Minister. For nearly two decades, Hon. Konchellah gave himself to the people of Kilgoris; and through them, to our nation. He represented with dignity. He understood that public office is, above all, a public trust. His was a life measured not in the years he held office, but in the lives he touched and the faith his people placed in him. Today, Kenya is the poorer for his loss. Kilgoris mourns a devoted son and a steadfast champion. The nation mourns a leader of his generation. To his family, his friends, and the people of Kilgoris he loved and served so faithfully, I extend my deepest and most heartfelt condolences. Met grassroots leaders from Marsabit led by Governor Mohamud Mohamud. Explained the measures we are taking to unlock the county's immense potential through strategic investments in infrastructure, livestock production, power and water projects.

We are building the Marsabit-Segel road at a cost of KSh1.4 billion and Segel-Maikona road at KSh1.8 billion, while security roads are being opened up at a cost of KSh100 million.

We have also set aside KSh2 billion for other roads in the county, including Loglogo-Korr-Kargi, North Horr-Dukana and Sololo-Anona-Golole-Uran sections.

Additionally, we are working with the Marsabit County Government to establish a dry port in Moyale to boost trade between Kenya and Ethiopia.

On electricity, we are investing KSh2.81 billion in last-mile connectivity and mini-grids.

At the same, Marsabit has been allocated KSh7 billion for affordable housing, modern markets and hostels for 1,500 students.

On healthcare, plans are underway for the construction of a Level 6 referral hospital in the county at a cost of KSh1.3 billion.

To end the perennial shortage of water in the county, we are building Badasa Dam alongside critical supply projects in Kalacha, Hurri Hills, Sololo, Korr and Loglogo to transform the region into an agri-business hub.
