We’re outta here, Xers... R.E.M. will no longer be updating this band page, but you can find us on Bluesky and follow along on all other official platforms here: remhq.com/
To celebrate my latest birthday, my wonderful wife @MagdoolaR had a great idea that I should make a playlist of my favourite song from each year of my life (so far).
Then I pressed 'shuffle' and today & tomorrow I’m posting them on Bluesky in the order in which they played.
Diamond Dogs meant so much to me because it was so weird and out there...away from the glam...Candidate was on permanent repeat for me...David Bowie was experimental...and went to really strange places all the time...so grateful to him in so many ways...but most of all it was his unflinching honesty...that interview with Jeremy Paxman was one of the most touching moments on television...because he showed his utter vulnerability and the level of his weakness...he didn't hide from his pain... the moment I knew he was dying was when he released Where Are We Now...Darkstar was just a stunning goodbye...a beautiful final statement...his creativity was a gift...and he shared it with us all...and he never stopped searching for the magic lyric or tune...no matter how rich or powerful he got...he never stopped changing...he never stopped challenging...and his music was always deeply emotional and intellectual...you made the world a better place...you made music a safe space for all us freaks and I will be forever grateful to you for that and will never forget it...
