The German ambassador to Israel, Steffen Seibert,
@GerAmbTLV, has a big heart.
It beats less strongly for the Jewish hostages held by Hamas. For them, he found only detached, politely professional words; passionate advocacy for their release was notably absent.
Steffen Seibert appears deeply moved, however, when he finds Jews who accuse
#Israel of committing a
#genocide (demonstrably falsely, in his view). At that point, his heart seems to overflow. Tender words flow into his tweets.
As a private citizen, none of this would be a problem. But as the ambassador of a country that, not so long ago, murdered six million Jews, he should be a source of embarrassment to
@bundeskanzler.
Steffen Seibert is damaging Germany’s reputation in Israel, and he is doing so, in what are likely the final stages of his tenure (one may reasonably assume), consciously and deliberately.
It is not easy to find useful idiots in Israel, but Seibert seems to have a knack for it.
He can count himself fortunate that Israel is such a tolerant democracy. Were I in charge, I would have expelled him from the country long ago.
