"At 35 weeks I lost the baby and my womb. I ended up losing 3 litres of blood and needed an emergency hysterectomy. This is what can happen." This was a UK surrogacy arrangement in a family and the woman thought she was helping. This woman now considers herself lucky to be alive.

The 'white-glove package' from new US elite #surrogacy agency costs $500k . They prepare 2 women for implantation "reducing the risk of a last-minute issue. If one surrogate becomes successfully pregnant, the second is released back into the pool." airmail.news/issues/2026-6-6…

Agency owner Dr Levine says “high-net-worth individuals lured to other agencies have overpaid but been under-serviced.” How awful for them. This is #surrogacy. There's always someone who wants a high quality baby and is willing to pay more. Article by @markjellwood.

Surveillance revealed the extent of these crimes and a second location was found where more pregnant women were being held. The Director of the National Bureau of Investigation said “no individual should be treated as a commodity or be exploited because of their circumstances”.

Having taken the time to read this report it’s clear it’s comprehensive; covering indigenous, incarcerated, migrant, disabled, single, child & older mothers and surrogate mothers. Mothers in all types of situations are exposed to physical, psychological and obstetric violence.
We are pleased to see #surrogacy included as a form of Violence Against Mothers in an upcoming report from @UNSRVAW. See the advanced copy below for the full details of how mothers are treated negatively and exposed to various harms around the world ⬇️

Member states are reminded of their international obligations and remarks that despite a drop in fertility rates, this has not encouraged “renewed appreciation for mothers”.

The section on #surrogacy highlights that women are “denied legal recognition as mothers” and are subjected to “practices amounting to trafficking, torture, servitude and slavery-like conditions.” Agreed. We thank the @UNSRVAW and her team for this advanced copy of the report.

“A feel good gloss on real ethical questions” is right. It’s time to think more deeply about the fertility industry and the direction of travel.
If only people would begin their thinking at the beginning. How about we stop freezing embryos (fed law in Germany). How about we stop experimentation (we *think* it’s safe to freeze embryos). How about we speak plainly about the risks of surrogacy. This sort of framing puts a feel good gloss on real ethical questions.

This is #surrogacy (For French speakers, no subtitles.)
Je vous explique l’affaire « Julie », une mère porteuse française qui s’est portée volontaire pour une GPA. Ce n’est pas parce qu’on ajoute le mot « éthique » à la GPA que celle-ci devient plus acceptable ! ⤵️

They'll just go to Mexico and buy themselves a child. The only way to stop surrogacy is to ban your citizens from going abroad and coming back with a child. Italy's law is perfect, the USA should replicate it.

"In #surrogacy-friendly jurisdictions such as California, contracts commonly address issues ranging from prenatal testing to selective reduction and abortion...In this framework, the surrogate can begin to resemble a service provider and the child the expected deliverable."
The fertility industry sells control. But biology refuses to cooperate. - Disability. - Prematurity. - Unexpected outcomes. That's when the consumer mentality becomes visible. tanjazec.substack.com/p/what… #ART #IVF #Surrogacy #Bioethics #HumanDignity #ChildrensRights
