“If you smile and make eye contact you’ll make friends.” (My daughter’s avatar for gaming).

I think stage for the job hunt is tilted against people with neurodiversity. How is it relevant to job qualifications, true or false, whether: “Sometimes I feel blue” or “Sometimes I could just scream” or “Sometimes I’d rather be alone” Questionnaires discriminate.

Teachers: Create a safe space in your classroom at lunch. Call it a study period, a makeup period. Well-behaved, self-motivated students who get bullied or ostracized at lunch now have a safe space to study or work with a brown bag lunch. It’s a lifeline. Saves much suffering.

We don’t force visually impaired people to “make eye contact” to please anyone. Should socially impaired people be forced to make social eye contact to please teachers, peers, therapists, or parents? It’s a permanent void. Honor that with love and respect. Who cares? Move on.

“Life changing” for who? Playing cartoons on your forehead so he will stare at it - that’s fake. Not real eye contact. Don’t confuse your desperate need for eye contact with his need for distance. He doesn’t want or need it. news.byu.edu/intellect/anima…

Sometimes the words never come. I remember wanting to tell her I loved her, imagined myself cuddling up to a mom and being hugged and wanted. All I could do is look at her across the room and feel totally alone. Brushed off. Pushed away. “Attention seeker”. Sent outside. Words.

NTs advise us that one of the quickest ways to make friends is to join a group where you share a common interest. But even if I joined a knitting club, my info dumping and autism would be too much for most people. Not a good way to make friends for an autist.

One of the quickest ways to lose a potential friend is to info dump. For me, information sharing is akin to “I like you”. But for NT, it means “Run for the hills”. Autism.

I’m sure some of you can identify with this. Maybe sometimes NTs mask, too, and feel the strain. But this is how many autists feel every day with every public interaction.

This is what loving supportive families look like. I just had autism and they want nothing to do with me. Kanye’s dealing with bigger more painful issues and they stick with him. Wow. He’s a lucky guy.
I'm far from the person who's gonna be defending Kim Kardashian on a regular basis. But before assuming that Kanye doesn't have people around who care about him, read this. And remember that it applies to other people with loved ones who have mental illnesses, too.
A really bad fibro day: Drains me so bad all I can do is take a series of naps all day long Means I attempt my work, but 5 mins leaves me so fatigued I almost faint Part of the day I may feel depressed, the other maybe I’m happy and gungho (but never make it)

So recently my daughter and I were banned from two relatives houses. They’d gossiped and come to a mutual resolution beforehand. Then blindsided us within a week. Verdict: my daughter visibly hugs and puts her head on me too much in front of them and acts too young for her age 😢

This is big. But so what? Is this keeping up with the Joneses? It didn’t feed a hungry college student. It didn’t shelter a distressed mother and child. It didn’t make housing more affordable. It didn’t help with medical bills. It didn’t hug or say I ❤️ U. Misspent 💰.

Have you ever been told by a familiar NT that there’s something about you that “doesn’t settle right” with them? As if you were secretly some sort of weirdo and they were scrutinizing you? Sounds crazy, right? But I’ve been told this. Scares me, since I don’t know what I did?
