And here is our last question for you, @SiddiquiZuha How can we encourage more young women to pursue careers in tech journalism and provide them with the necessary support and resources to succeed?

So generally, anything that's hard-hitting or investigative is considered to be a "hard" beat, and arts & entertainment or "human interest" stories are considered to be "softer" -- and often times, women in newsrooms are relegated to the latter, seldom allowed to cover the former

Already partially answered this in question 6! A mentorship program would be great, particularly one that encourages young women from underrepresented groups to seek careers in journalism and provides them with access to workshops, reporting grants and resources for their safety.

A lack of representation of women in journalism is a global problem—not just limited to Pakistan. I think workplace trainings that specifically address why it is problematic to silo women into “softer” beats would be really helpful, along with programs advocating for inclusivity.

None that I know of, but I think a mentorship program would be really useful. Something along the lines of a program that connects more experienced women journalists with folks just starting out, helping them craft and hone pitches, sourcing, and how to structure their stories.

Significantly. The field is grueling – and it’s hard to get taken seriously as a woman, especially if you’re young. Only 5 percent of journalists in Pakistan are women, according to this harrowing Washington Post investigation published last year. washingtonpost.com/investiga…

I think gender disparity in tech trickles into tech journalism. Also, I very rarely come across tech-focused stories that also look at gender – for instance: Why does Pakistan have one of the widest mobile gender gaps in the world? What is being done to correct that gap?

2/ Second is this piece I did with @faisal_reports and @Samriddhi0809. It’s super grim and looks at how gig workers in some of the world’s most polluted cities have been suffering from health impacts because of toxic air. restofworld.org/2024/riders-…

1/ My favorite is this one about Pakistani e-commerce guru Sunny Ali who spun dreams—thousands of dollars from Amazon sales, a billion dollar economy. My co-reporter @NilChristopher & I chased him across 3 countries, reporting on how his empire crumbled. restofworld.org/2023/sunny-a…
