To introduce a helpful concept: perception of fact is not necessarily a difference in principle. To butcher CS Lewis, “if you sincerely thought your grandma reincarnated into a cow, you wouldn’t eat her either.” But if one consistently ignores facts, bigoted attachment to a principle is clearly the issue.
