With the 2026 Fiscal Year (FY) approaching we're taking a look back at some of the municipality's key accomplishments in FY2025. Up next: how we got more people reading both in @Worcester_PL branches and our @worcesterpublic schools.
ALT Did You Know?
In FY25, The Worcester Public Library saw a 10.7% increase in visitors over the previous year and circulated 1,028,351 items. WPL also continued its innovative partnership with the Worcester Public Schools, supplying over 13,000 brand new and curriculum-based books for public school teachers grade K-4 to create their own classroom libraries and expanding overall access to books with the launch of Sora, an ebook platform.
An extreme heat warning is in effect. The @Worcester_PL and Worcester Senior Center will serve as cooling centers Monday and Tuesday. The @Worcester311 Customer Service Center will serve as a cooling center on Tuesday.
Here are some tips on how you can stay safe and cool.
ALT Stay Hydrated:
Heat-related illness can often be prevented by drinking the right amount of water.
An average person needs to drink about three-quarters of a gallon of fluid daily.
Avoid sugary, caffeinated and alcoholic drinks.
Remind others to stay hydrated.
ALT Keep Your House Cool:
Cover windows with drapes or shades.
Use air conditioners instead of electric fans if possible.
Reduce the use of your stove and oven when cooking.
ALT Keep Yourself Cool:
Wear sunscreen of SPF 15 or higher.
Wear lightweight, light-colored and loose-fitting clothing.
Limit outdoor work and activities, if possible.
Take cool showers and baths.
ALT Protect Others:
Never leave infants, children or pets inside a parked vehicle.
Check on elderly family member, neighbors and friends to make sure they are comfortable and safe.
Remind others to drink enough water.
