They've chosen the colours of the type of mould you get on bread and the type of mould you get in your shower. Probably apt connotations for covering UK infrastructure.
The UK's infrastructure takes ages to build. @state_britain now has a map with all the NSIPs and their timelines from proposal to construction.

Turns out Catherine West's candidacy was actually a stalking horse for Big Oat.
For the religion & politics nerd crowd (it’s kind of my job), worth noting that Catherine West would (I think) be the first Quaker prime minister.

But why doesn't Yvette Cooper want it any more? At 57 (and in a seat that won't survive after the GE) this has to basically be the last chance. (Or second-to-last, if someone Trusses out) Why did she want to be Foreign Sec if not to broaden herself ready for PM?

Once housing costs and the costs of children are taken into account, the disposable incomes of those over pension age are now, on average, as high as the disposable incomes of the rest of the population.

UK Salary discourse in this country is always mental because, seemingly no matter what number it is, someone will come out as saying it’s basically unliveable to live on or extravagantly wealthy.

Oh all the many infuriating things about thia country, this one can be solved the easiest and there's zero argument that makes any sense as to keeping it
I’m just back to London after a weekend away with my family. A busy week ahead, so now is the perfect time to go and do the big weekly shop. Thanks to politicians not understanding how family life actually works I now have precisely 20 minutes before the shop shuts. It’s not going to happen.

1. The wealthiest cohort in British society is pensioners aged 65-75 2. The Triple Lock is totally economically unsustainable and will eventually sink us all. We are increasingly not a very wealthy country by gdp per capita and we cannot have public spending endlessly eaten up to feather the nests of a large number of wealthy asset owners. 3. If you discuss pensioner income, without factoring pensioner wealth, or pensioners’ lack of housing costs (75-80% own a home out right. 15% are social renters who will receive HB if on low income), I don’t want to hear it. 4. Re the lowest public pensions in Europe argument. UK system relies more heavily on private pensions and savings and other countries in Europe yes, but other countries in Europe are also sitting on an absurd ticking time-bomb that is promoting intergenerational inequality in the here and now and catastrophe in the future. Let’s not follow their lead. If you reply to me without engaging in all of these 4 points, I don’t wanna hear it.

Unreal numbers 👀⚡️ "JPMorgan estimates that, had Germany not phased out nuclear power, the country would have generated 50% less electricity from fossil fuels and 84% less electricity from natural gas in 2024. Electricity prices in Germany would have been around 25% lower, and the country would have imported half as much electricity.."

Some combinations of changes, such as reducing the repayment rate and extending the write-off period, could reduce repayments early in graduates' working lives. This could be roughly cost-neutral for the exchequer but only if some graduates repaid for longer.

Student loans. All the talk is of cutting the interest rate or the threshold. Won't help. This is a NINE percentage point graduate tax. Want to help? If you can't reform the whole system, cut the tax.. from a 9% marginal rate to something not so nasty and disincentivizing.
