Czechia and Chile were two of the three medallists in the women’s pair at World Rowing Cup I two weeks ago, and they went head-to-head again in the heat in Plovdiv. Chile’s Abraham sisters took victory today, but Czechia were faster in the final in Seville. New Zealand narrowly missed automatic qualification for the final. Heat 2 went to USA1 ahead of Italy. The men’s pairs were racing for semifinal spots. Italy won heat 1 ahead of USA 2, New Zealand continued their form by taking heat 1 comfortably ahead of Serbia, and USA 1 won heat 3 with Croatia second. #WRCPlovdiv #WorldRowingCup

It’s been a couple of years since we saw Serbia’s Jovana Arsic in a single scull - she was 13th at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games - but she’s arrived in Plovdiv in good form, winning heat 1 of the women’s single sculls comfortably ahead of China’s Wang Sixuan. Grace Joyce of the USA made a good debut in this boat class with victory in heat 2. Alice Prokesova (CZE) took the second automatic qualification spot in the final. Kateryna Dudchenko (UKR1) and Tokyo 2020 Olympic silver medallist Anna Prakaten (UZB1) take the last two places in the final based on time. The first heat of the men’s single sculls saw four scullers cross the line pretty much together. Pavel Sorin (UZB1) pipped Samuel Melvin (USA1) for first place; under-23 world champion Cevtldet Ege Mutlu (TUR) was third. Mihai Chiruta (ROU1) won heat 2, with Chilean Andoni Habash second. And Jacob Plihal (USA2) won heat 3 ahead of Gabriel Soares (ITA). #WRCPlovdiv #WorldRowingCup

Racing is underway here in Plovdiv! 🇧🇬 Uzbekistan claim victory in both preliminary races for the PR2 and PR3 mixed double sculls. The Uzbek PR3 mixed double crew are the regatta’s youngest competitors at 17 and 16 years old, and despite a crab on the line were comfortably ahead of Türkiye in their race. Kim Jiseon (KOR1) took first place in the lightweight women’s single sculls preliminary race, ahead of Kimberlin Meneses (VEN2), who came through her teammate Keyla Garcia in the middle of the track. Ahn Heeju (KOR2) had a good start but faded. The experienced Ukrainian Igor Khmara won the lightweight men’s single sculls preliminary. Firdavs Akhunov (UZB) was second after a good race against Jonas Diaz (VEN), with Alexandr Matronitchi completing the field. The lightweight men’s double sculls preliminary race was a great one between Venezuela, second at World Rowing Cup I in Seville, and Uzbekistan. Cesar Amaris and Jose Guipe just held on for the win. Azerbaijan were third, and the Republic of Korea finished fourth. They will race again for medals tomorrow! #WRCPlovdiv #WorldRowingCup
