Agree, and actually as more A-Listers go vocal I think the death threats and hysteria will calm down. It's not a good look for their career to be so vicious to people on line for no good reason. Just because you're mad, this is about art and business — and no one is stopping you from making movies without AI. Unfortunately I think we live in a time and culture of rage, which is why it's important for positive communities like @MachineCinemaAI and @CuriousRefuge where people can get support.
Honestly, we’re just going to keep seeing more and more big filmmakers being open to AI in filmmaking and art and the Anti-AI crowd will have less and less arguments to make. The paradox is they’ll also get louder too. The problem for them is that they’ll increasingly sound whiny. Ron Howard on AI: “It’s very exciting in terms of its potential to more efficiently and more broadly help storytellers get their ideas out there,” Howard said of the hot-button tech. “There are so many facts yet to be sorted out,” he said, but added he thought the possibilities are very appealing and that others will agree. “We will want it.” Howard was speaking at the Runway AI Film Festival at Lincoln Center in New York Thursday, where he talked on stage with the video-generation company’s co-founder Cris Valenzuela. That conversation followed a similar AI-themed talk from earlier this spring between Valenzuela and Kathleen Kennedy, who was more circumspect. Perhaps most strikingly, Howard said that one of the most influential hand-crafted entertainers of the 20th century would also embrace AI if he was alive today. “Jim Henson just wanted to be busy making [things],” said Howard, who came to know the Muppets creator well from working on the 2024 documentary about him Idea Man. “That’s what these tools make so available and why they’re so exciting.” When asked about a backlash, Howard said, “You’re talking about change and people are worried about it. I’m worried about it, on a professional level. But again, our job is to experiment with it and learn from it and work with it,” adding, “It’s going to evolve. And audiences are going to tell us.”

Todd MacFarlane is a legend in comics. He worked on Spiderman, Spawn, and is now President of Image comics. These are his thoughts on AI: “I don't get what the big why people are so worked up. I don't get it. If we just look at it, it's a tool that's efficient. Every tool that's come along in the history of mankind put somebody out of business, right? all of a sudden the word processor came, came up, and now they're not selling less pencils, right? There used to be VHSs, and then it went to DVDs, and now you can just stream it, right? The people who are making DVDs are out of business for the most part. 90% of them don't exist. Why don't we cry for them? The problem with any tool is it can be used for both good and bad. So I can give you a hammer and you can either build me a house or you can bludgeon me over the head with it, same tool, right? I think what the people are getting a little bit upset, they're thinking that they're stealing artwork or something like that but I swear to you, there's an efficiency there. We are just talking to a couple people in the animation. I still need to hire you, and I need you to do some gun designs for me. If you want to use that tool, you don't have to. If you're great, you don't have to, but if you want to use that tool, you can now give me 20 options. I need you to show me at the end of the day your weapons. You can give me 20 options, and I got 20 to look at, and I can pick the two best. If I leave it to you, and you got to hand draw every single one of them, and you don't got any kind of guidance, you're gonna give me three, and if all three of them are mediocre, I am stuck with mediocrity from you. But if you can give me 20 with a little bit of help, shoot, we're gonna come up with a cool looking gun in the animation show we're doing, or something like that. Like, our job is to put out the coolest stuff possible.” x.com/SpideyDoeStuff/status/…

Went to Upscale last few days and spent the entire time interviewing AI creators and filmmakers. In total, I did 75 interviews. Combining that with interviews I’ve done at AI on the Lot and Edge City, I’ve recorded over 120 interviews in one week. Let’s go.

Nicolas Winding Refn on AI: “Having now tried it on something later on that may show here, I really love the creativity. For me, it’s like a brush. And obviously, no one really knows all the implications of what this is going to do and what’s going to happen, but from the perspective of creativity it’s a new invention. And then it’s what you’re going to do with it.” variety.com/2026/film/festiv…
