My partner and I have received our postal vote. I'm not sure how to vote. For the first time at this election, I am only a voter. I won't be at a count or up all night waiting for the results, instead I will be celebrating my brother's wedding. But I might sneak a peak.

On a panel at #lgcnz24 about finances and net zero. Inevitably first thing mentioned is the years of austerity for councils and inequality of "competitive" funding pots from central government.

O' Neill from Barnsley said "there is no easy answer" for getting more residents retrofitted houses when they have private landlords or are not able to get funding support. He says there needs to be more willingness and connection to the local area for an appetite to do this

While Matt Ralfe from Nottingham says residents actually notice congestion more than air quality and air quality affects the poorest the most, who often don't have a car. Also they are encouraging more ev use with their fleet of bin lorries being electrified. Also new trams🚊

Broomhead also added criticism about how more motorways are being built so the green initiative needs to be shared by national government to improve air quality and reach net zero goals.

Local planning process should encourage the green agenda, says Broomhead. But it's too complicated and controversial with private companies opposing a lot of it. Chisholm from Brighton and Hove shared similar challenges especially when land is so expensive in her region

Chief exec of Warrington Steven Broomhead said there's both policy and financial fragmentation in net zero. And capital investment is needed for net zero goals but many councils can't access it at the moment due to austerity. #lgcnz24
