Happy Birthday to the late Paul Lynde, out of Mount Vernon, Ohio; Lynde’s legacy is defined by his sharp wit, campy style, and his role as a brave pioneer for LGBTQ representation on American television. As a celebrated actor and comedian, he created an unforgettable style of humor that pushed the boundaries of what was allowed on television in the 1960’s & 1970’s—Lynde became a household name on the game show “Hollywood Squares”—he spent over a decade as the permanent “center square” where he mastered the art of the quick-witted comeback. Lynde operated in a Hollywood culture that was far less accepting of gay performers. While he never publicly came out, his flamboyancy was an open secret; 6-13-1926 to 1-10-1982 ( aged 55—the coroner ruled the death was caused by a heart attack)….
