Does anyone else struggle with keeping a story streamlined? ESPECIALLY if you, like me, are a writer with adhd. Advice?

Ugh. Low, low, writer self confidence day and absolutely no idea about how to boost it. I’ve been in this industry for 12 years and feel so foolish and like an absolute novice so often.

As a book editor, I truly believe revisions are where the magic happens and the story blossoms. But many authors get overwhelmed by the process. If revisions give you the heebie-jeebies, here are 3 methods you can use to get started (an #amediting 🧵):

Anyone looking for a true rough draft critique partner/writer buddy? Fantasy genre, YA, na, adult, romantasy, etc.

I’m revisiting a very old draft, and it’s both so much fun and so bittersweet, because I’ve lost touch with the critique partner and friend who helped shape and develop it. It would be too awkward to reach out, years later.

Since the Twitter for #PhillyBookCrawl got shut down (@MrErnestOwens is still posting on Instagram!) I'm sharing here. @SEOMInteractive is giving away THREE DOZEN KIDS BOOKS at FIVE STORES that day! If you do the math... that's a LOT of books. Wow. ❤️ phillybookstorecrawl.com/upd…

If someone said “hi, I was asleep since 2020, what are the biggest YA books I missed” what would you say?

When did publishing make the switch from marketing stuff as trope-subverting to “tropes as major selling points?”

I just don’t know how long it’s going to take for me to get used to being asked “which tropes are in your book?” Like a book is a skeleton of tropes with a plot glued on

Would also consider paid betas for this!

It’s funny. There’s things I’ve wanted to say in my three-year-long hiatus from twitter that I haven’t found the words for. But now it’s more clear there’s not really a site to come back to.

Which is sad in so many ways. But the clearest, I think, is all the people I’ve lost touch with. I was deeply grieving a painful loss for a long time, and didn’t have the energy to keep up with others, who all faded out of touch. Now, most aren’t even on twitter

In perusing an old 1950s manners book, found this amusingly relevant section (glad to know author copies were a hot commodity even then 😂)

Thinking a lot about the the “day job plus writing” discussion and about how I did it (and still do!) but how it feels like burning out, over and over. How friendships fade so fast when there’s too much to juggle, how grief upends everything. How fragile the balance is
