For over a year, I’ve been building CoverKit. What started as a small replacement for an abandoned plugin slowly turned into something much bigger: a flexible image creation system for WordPress publishing workflows. At least in theory. 😄 Now I’m opening early access for the first time. If you publish with WordPress and creating images is part of your process, CoverKit might be exactly what you’ve been missing. coverkit.com

I got decent feedback from many folks at #WCEU for CoverKit. Anne pointed me to some accessibility issues I should be aware of and I already addressed them. Sign up to my early access list if you’re are curious: coverkit.com

Good point. I'm super stoked about CoverKit, thank you for showing it to me during #WCEU!

I’m building the CoverKit docs alongside the plugin itself. The whole documentation lives inside the repo as Markdown. Astro builds it, GitHub Actions deploys it to Cloudflare Pages, and everything stays versioned with the code. Setup was easy, and I don’t have to rely on hosting a WordPress instance just for documentation. It still needs some refinement, but it already covers everything the plugin currently does: docs.coverkit.com

All recordings after already in WPTV wordpress.tv/event/wordcamp-… And almost all photos are in Flickr flickr.com/photos/wceu/album… There has been a problem with the slides that are delaying a bit posting everything to the web, but we are in it

#WCEU2027 is in Spain 😍😍😍 Would you like to come a week earlier — or stay a week after #WCEU? In my 126-year-old house in the Spanish mountains? I bought this abandoned house with no water, no electricity, and no people around — to build a new life here. I repaired the roof, installed solar panels, brought water, got Starlink, and planted tomatoes 🍅 to create my personal paradise, where I work on complex #WordPress projects and relax in nature. Now, 3 years later I am ready to open it to my WordPress friends as well. #MySpanishWPRetreat Imagine this: you finally sit down and focus on THAT project. The one that's been sitting in your head for the last two years. 4 hours of focused work every morning, no interruptions, no Slack. Then you close the laptop at 2 pm and are not allowed back until tomorrow morning. You have a good meal with 6–10 WordPress people who are doing the exact same thing, chat, and rest. Then go to the lake, or for a hike, or visit an ancient Spanish castle, or say, river rafting. Sit outside until it gets dark, enjoying the evening freshness of the mountains. Wake up to birds singing and repeat. For 6 more days. At the end of the week, you have that dream project of yours done, ideas for new ones, your body and mind relaxed, and happy. That's #MySpanishWPRetreat. My house. Spanish mountains, 700m up, century-old pine trees. Small group of like-minded creative WordPress people. May 16–24 and June 1–8, 2027. You will have to apply with a project you can finish in ~20 hours of focused work. But for now -- if the idea vibes with you, drop me a line. We'll stay in touch, and I'll send you details when all the details are ready. I'm truly excited about this. And you?

I wish event homepages had a stronger "after the event" state. Once the conference is over, the things people are most likely looking for are → slides → session recordings → stats → photos → follow-up resources It would be great to have direct links to those on the homepage, instead of making people dig through the site or wait for social posts. europe.wordcamp.org/2026/ #WCEU

WordCamp Europe in Krakow was an amazing event. I had so much fun and had many interesting conversations. But I can’t help leaving with a weird feeling about where things are heading. The companies themselves are communicating confidently about the future and adaptation. But when you talk to individuals behind the scenes, you can feel the nervousness. Especially among businesses that were built entirely on top of WordPress. A lot of the conversations I had seem to confirm something I’ve been thinking about for a while: the biggest threat to WordPress isn’t technical, it’s economic. People are talking about plugin sales being down. Employees wanting to work for more innovative companies. Fellow content creators are seeing less interest in WordPress content. And some people working at WordPress companies are spending their evenings building websites with different AI tools and platforms. It’s looks like many people seem to have one foot outside of WP already. That is not good for the ecosystem. And I can feel that myself as a creator. My interests are expanding as well. WordPress has been a huge part of my life and career for years. And I am not leaving but after this Wordcamp, it feels harder to stay fully dedicated to this platform. Maybe it just feels a bit sad somehow.

Another reason to not use a centralized closed system.

Went to a „weird“ cocktail bar yesterday. To get in you had to ring a bell and share a secret password. Once that was confirmed, you got picked up by the waiter which walked you through a rabbit hole and later served you delicious cocktails. Thanks to @schmitzoide for the drink!
