– City of Markham
York Regional Police is reminding the public to continue to practice proactive coyote safety after 3 reports of concerning coyote behaviour in parks near McCowan Rd and 16th Ave in Markham in the last 24 hours.
Residents, pedestrians and pet owners are urged to use caution and to supervise children and pets at all times, especially in the early morning and evening.
If you see a coyote:
• Do not approach or feed it
• Keep pets on a leash
• Do not run
• Make yourself appear large and loud
• Stay back and do not stop to take photos
If a coyote is behaving aggressively, lingering near people, or appears sick or injured, call police immediately. If there is an immediate threat to public safety, call 9-1-1.
