Maldives tourism occupancy has decreased by nearly 40%, with a further decline anticipated in June and July. Decisive and immediate action is imperative to restore investor confidence and safeguard the long-term stability of the tourism sector.

Introducing spearfishing for tourism in the Maldives deserves careful consideration and dialogue with industry stakeholders and international partners. Reef impact, enforcement challenges and widespread social media exposure could undermine our preserve environment-first positioning and long-term tourism value. I call for a reconsideration.

Meetings with representatives from Angola, Uganda, and Kenya took place during ITB Berlin 2026, where we held early-stage discussions on potential trade cooperation between our companies and these countries partners. These discussions reflect the broader vision highlighted earlier by former President Mohamed Nasheed on strengthening trade opportunities and economic partnerships between the Maldives and African nations. Vision of Maldives never be neglected.@MohamedNasheed @YRiffath @DhekunuNizar

We made it to ITB 2026 once again. This has been one of the most challenging ITBs for us mainly due to the flight disruptions, last-minute changes, and complex routing across different airlines. The journey itself felt longer and more demanding than ever. But no matter the challenges, our commitment to Maldives tourism remains strong. We are here in Berlin, ready to represent, promote, and strengthen our partnerships. Difficult journeys only remind us why this industry needs resilience, unity, and vision.@YRiffath @visitmaldives @Mausoom_Maus @kaaniablo @ibrahim_asim

February 2026 marks the highest occupancy the Maldives has witnessed in the past 4 years, with nearly all resorts at 90% or higher occupancy rate. A powerful sign of resilience and recovery. Congratulations all stakeholders. Let us build on the momentum.

Maldives travel agents are being erased. while tourism booms, we’re buried. Every election promises regulation. Every presidency breaks it. Government offices back online giants, ignoring the locals who built this billion-dollar industry. We pay taxes. we creat jobs , We educated Our locals and we feed families. We deserve better.

In Maldives Travel agents are fading and Government has failed to protect them. First 100 Days Government promised a bill for travel agencies, where is that now ? We see failed policies across the board and poor governance sadly. New Investment reforms also travel agencies are forgotten. MATATO needs to advocate and lobby more for these things.@MATATO

I began my journey in tourism under the guidance of MU Manik in Villigili. Deeply saddened by his passing. إِنَّا لِلّهِ وَإِنَّـا إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُونَ May Allah grant him eternal peace and Jannah. His legacy will live on.

Today is a special day for me personally. However what I have witnessed during my recent resort visits is deeply concerning . Occupancy rates have reduced by 30-35%. This is unprecedented for our island nation. Investor confidence in the Maldives is fading. We need urgent and decisive action now. #Maldives #Resorts #tourism

Before heading to WTM, our good friends came together to exchange insights and share years of experience, focusing on strategies to strengthen our presence at the event. With the Maldives consistently ranked as a top destination, we discussed how to leverage this reputation while also finding new ways to attract more visitors. By pooling our expertise on market trends, key industry shifts, and our unique strengths, we’re well prepared to represent our brand effectively and foster connections that will drive us toward our goals.@YRiffath @Mausoom_Maus @kaaniablo @ibrahim_asim

I’m seeking clarification regarding the new regulation introduced by the MMA, which mandates a USD 50,000 deposit to obtain a foreign exchange license. Does this apply to all businesses, or is it based on tiers such as Tier 1 and Tier 2? Specifically, does it impact travel agents, guest houses, safari boats, resorts, or airlines? Even if a business only exchanges USD 500 monthly, is the deposit still required for the license? With over 200 travel agents, 25 airline representatives, 900 guest houses, 210 safari boats, and 185 resorts, this regulation could lead to the MMA collecting over USD 76 million. Can someone justify or provide guidance on how this applies to businesses across different tiers? @MMA_Maldives @YRiffath @matatoMV @highriseissey
