The Yucaipa Valley Water District's construction of the R-16.2 Reservoir and Booster Station marks a key infrastructure upgrade designed to enhance drinking water reliability and wildfire protection in the region.
This project replaced an old, 200,000-gallon bolted steel tank from the early 1980s with a modern 600,000-gallon reservoir, substantially increasing storage capacity to support daily operations and critical emergency fire flows. This new reservoir was also designed and constructed to meet the latest seismic standards.
Now that the new drinking water reservoir is complete and operational, the District is focused on the construction of a new booster station. The booster station will feature an emergency generator for operation of the facility during SCE Public Safety Power Shutoff events and enlarged pipelines to improve water system pressure and overall efficiency.
Upon completion of the integrated reservoir and booster station, firefighters will have additional water supplies with improved flow rates to reduce the threat of wildfires in the area. On a daily basis, the community will benefit from improved operational reliability and dependability of the drinking water system.
The site was carefully planned to support future upgrades, including a new recycled water reservoir and a second drinking water reservoir. These improvements reflect the District’s ongoing commitment to innovation and water reliability. Once the recycled water reservoir is completed, our community will benefit from a sustainable new water source that reduces the use of drinking water for irrigation - helping conserve valuable resources and strengthen local water resources for years to come.
We appreciate your continued support as we work to provide reliable and sustainable water service to the community.
