How do we study mobility behavior in evacuations? Or futuristic contexts, like when AVs start sharing the road with humans? At 183rd Dies Natalis of @tudelft, we showcased how eXtended Reality can revolutionize the way we explore these critical questions. HappyBirthdayTU! đĽł
âď¸New paper in Transportation Research Part C. We conducted an eye-tracking wayfinding study and compared it to an identical VR study to better understand the extent to which VR can be a valid research tool for studying wayfinding behavior. #virtualreality#wayfinding
You can read the paper here: lnkd.in/eqheVQh3
This is the original VR study 'Development and evaluation of a VR research tool to study wayfinding behaviour in a multi-story building': lnkd.in/eSZe56pD. Time flies!
đNew paper published in Transportation Research Part C: Emerging Technologies. We utilized #VirtualReality experiments and #deeplearning techniques to investigate pedestrian wayfinding behavior in a transportation hub. Read more here: lnkd.in/geSE3cY4
đCall for papers: Workshop on "eXtended Reality & Intelligent Agents", co-located with 27th European Conferenceon on Artificial Intelligence. Selected workshop papers will contribute to a Special Issue on SN Computer Science. Check here for more details lnkd.in/eU_YwE9p.
đOur workshop welcomes papers that propose architectures, methodologies, and tools for integrating intelligent agents and XR systems, as well as already developed case studies and technologies, and more visionary proposals.
đď¸Submission deadline: 1 June 2024. Conference date and location: Santiago de Compostela, Spain, October 19-20, 2024. Hope to see you in Spain with Daniela Briola and Viviana Mascardi.
The exhibition at @tudelftlibrary highlights our master studentsâ XR applications developed during course eXtended Reality for civil engineering. We had students from different #civilengineering backgrounds and applied #XR to solve civil engineering challenges.
Very happy to see our students who hadnât have any XR knowledge but learned to develop XR applications and apply them in civil engineering domain. Design and develop this course from scratch wasnât easy but itâs certainly fun! I enjoyed every bit of it.
This course is offered in Q1 of every academic year for master students. If youâre interested pr know someone might be interested, welcome to check it out. Let me know if you get any questions. #education
Preprint 1 is published at 2023 IEEE 26th International Conference on Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITSC).
You can read it here: ieeexplore.ieee.org/documentâŚ
đ¨2 new preprints on different subjects:
Preprint 1: Effect of eHMI on pedestrian road crossing behavior in shared space with Automated Vehicles - A Virtual Reality study. #Automatedvehicle#PedestrianSafetyarxiv.org/abs/2308.05654
đ¨New publication alert!
Arco van Beek, our PhD student published an article on using #VirtualReality to study the impact of lighting on pedestrian route choice. It was published in the SI of @PED2023 in Safety Science. Feeling very proud to witness this milestone of my student.
Youâre invited to join exhibition of master course "eXtended Reality for Civil Engineering' at the @tudelftlibrary from February 19-23. Students will showcase their XR applications that address civil engineering challenges.

In a special demo session on February 22 (12:30 to 14:00), you can personally experience and interact with the XR applications. If you'd like to join this demo session, please register via this link: lnkd.in/eGhuxs-u
You can now register to our next webinar by Early Career Researchers working on #crowd#evacuation: tinyurl.com/hbif10 On the 8th of March at 03:00 PM CET we will host Dr Hossein Tavanarezaei, Dr Yunhe Tong and MSc Khadija Baig
Mobility should be designed for all, which is unfortunately not yet true in reality. Weâre finalizing the interviews we conducted with wheelchair users. If youâre interested in inclusive mobility, shoot me a message. #inclusivity#accessibility#mobility#virtualreality
Happy to announce my new role as an Editorial Board Member at Transportation Research Part C sciencedirect.com/journal/trâŚ. Looking forward to leveraging my expertise in mobility and extended reality, and collaborating with fellow researchers in shaping the future of #Mobility.
