In the House of Commons, the Prime Minister says he recognises Cornish national minority status, and wishes the people of Cornwall a happy St Piran’s Day. Gool Peran Lowen!

It was never going to happen with a Lib Dem amendment in the Lords. Cornwall’s MPs should have demanded specific mention of Cornwall in the bill from the start. If they believed ministers’ empty promises of a bespoke deal then that’s on them.

So Cornwall has to make cuts to essential services but we can still send £108 million to Pakistan to “support their green growth ambitions”? Make it make sense

The government announces a national emergency when 16,000 homes in the South East have no water. But when 50,000 homes in Cornwall are affected by the worst storm in years, they are silent. Yet another reason why Cornwall needs more devolution now. falmouthpacket.co.uk/news/25…

Bledhen Nowydh Da (Happy New Year) to everyone in the nation of Cornwall and around the world! 2025 was a year of promises of greater recognition of Cornish nationhood. Let’s make 2026 a year of concrete action!

They said it couldn’t happen. But we were united and determined not to sacrifice our national status for short-term gain. Cornwall will get its own devolution deal. Cornwall is a nation!
🚨NEW: Cornwall is set to get its *own devolution deal*, according to a letter sent to MPs & council It says govt 'is minded, on an exceptional basis... to explore designating the council a Single Foundation Strategic Authority Would close the case for a Devon & Cornwall mayor

Thanks to Cornish MPs and councillors who remained resolute, kept hold of their vision, and stood up to threats. Special thanks go to @LukePollard and other Devon politicians, whose arrogance and contempt for Cornish national status united and galvanised opinion here.

🚨🚨 Huge news for Cornwall! After months of pressing Ministers, the Government has offered a bespoke devolution deal that respects our national minority status, with NO joint authority with Devon - and hopefully no requirement for a directly elected mayor.

After years of hard work, the Cornish language will be given Part Three status, meaning it will be recognised and protected at the same level as Welsh, Scottish and Irish Gaelic!

Three places in Devon received funding, but none in Cornwall. And this is despite Cornwall being poorer than Devon. This is exactly what would happen with a Devonwall Mayor - all the funding would go to Devon, as their higher population means that’s where the votes would be.

Leaving the ECHR means leaving the Council of Europe. We will lose Cornish national minority status. Labour MPs are in power NOW - they must write our national status into UK law while they can, with a Cornish National Minority Bill. Or it’ll be their fault as much as Kemi’s.
It’s time to leave the ECHR👇

Labour “South West”. It’s no wonder Labour is so clueless when it comes to Cornwall - to them we’re just part of a South West region, nothing more. Why would we trust them to stand up for Cornish nationhood when they won’t even recognise it themselves?

Cornwall's right to devolution comes from our national minority status, but if anyone suggests Cornwall is too small, tell them to buy an atlas. Other countries have areas of a similar size to Cornwall, with their own parliaments or assemblies and wide-ranging powers.

Forcing a national minority to merge into a wider area is undemocratic. Services, jobs and money would be centralised in Devon. A Devonwall mayor would largely answer to the needs of Devon. We have the right to equal treatment with other UK nations.

“The parties shall refrain from policies or practices aimed at assimilation of persons belonging to national minorities against their will.” —Article 5, Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities The UK government is not meeting its treaty obligations. By forcing Cornwall to merge with Devon, it is enabling the assimilation of Cornwall into a regional structure in which the Cornish will be marginalised, it is acting against the expressed wishes of the Cornish national minority, and it is discriminating against the Cornish by denying us equal treatment with other national minorities.
