ALT Since ancient times, kudagitsune were feared and hated as a type of possessing spirit.
Even so,
there were a small number of people
who managed to build a bond of trust with them.
However…
On rare occasions,
the kittens they lived alongside ended up receiving more affection.
Consumed by jealousy, they…
began imitating the cries of kittens
in an attempt to win their master’s attention,
or so the story goes.
ALT Masakazu: So, the kudagitsune that want to be liked by humans make kitten-like cries,
while ordinary kudagitsune make sounds more similar to a fox.
Iroha: Normally, you’d expect a story like this to end with us getting cursed immediately,
but the fact that the fox spirit is actually trying to be liked is way too adorable.
Nigapon: WAY TOO ADORABLE.
Iroha: That just now…!? W-was that… my voice?!
Masakazu: It’s still only imitating in broken bits, but sometimes it copies us.
Kudagitsune were originally yokai that asked questions to divine good fortune,
so perhaps they can hear our conversations too.
