Incredibly grateful to @arishapiro and @alejanse_ for such a powerful report on what the suspension of the refugee program means for people like Reine and Jacombo. Listen to the story below, including insight from @KrishVignarajah of @GlobalRefuge. 🎧 npr.org/2025/01/24/nx-s1-527…

This morning, federal immigration agents violently detained individuals on the grounds of Commodore John Rodgers Elementary/Middle School in Baltimore during school hours. Children were present. School staff intervened to care for them. 🧵1 / 5 thebanner.com/education/k-12…

The new USCIS policy would appear to require anyone who is currently in the US who marries a U.S. citizen to leave the country, potentially for months or years, to get an immigrant visa; rather than doing what has been the process for 66 years and just applying for a green card.
So if we had kids at the time she applied, my wife would have had to leave her children in the US to apply for a Green Card?

Congress is being asked to hand ICE another $38 BILLION. In any other context, a 90% failure rate would trigger an audit, not a blank check. They need to ask themselves: why would we write a check to scale up a detention regime that the courts have found unlawful 10,000 times?
There’s a reason why ICE has lost 10,000 times in detention cases — and why it’s losing in the court of public opinion. My thoughts on @alivelshi about landmark reporting from @kyledcheney, who exposed the vast # of illegal detentions of Dreamers, children, refugees and more. 👇

NEW: We've spent 10 months tracking the outcomes in tens of thousands of lawsuits brought by ICE detainees amid an unprecedented detention push. It's not a cose call: judges have ruled more than 10,000 times against ICE, a 9-1 ratio. See the database: politico.com/news/2026/05/13…

Seven years ago today, I walked into @GlobalRefuge not knowing how much this work would change me. Grateful every day to lift up refugee voices, advocate for change, and never take for granted what it means to have a place to call home.

Nearly 12,000 habeas cases filed is a staggering amount, something not seen in generations. And for the government to lose 86% of the time, in front of hundreds of judges appointed by every living president, is a sign of just how much ICE and DOJ stretched the law until it broke.

It's official! Florida's Everglades immigrant detention camp (officially known as "Alligator Alcatraz") is shutting down. The tent camp cost Florida over $1 million a day to operate. Conditions were dire; men reported verbal and physical abuse, unhygienic conditions, and more.
New: Florida intends to shut down Alligator Alcatraz, the high-profile immigration detention center that it opened last summer in the Everglades, according to a federal official and three people familiar with the facility’s operations.

Some new polling from Pew shows what you probably already intuitively know: Americans *really* don’t like immigration enforcement in sensitive locations like churches, hospitals, and schools.

To be clear: if someone obtained citizenship through genuine fraud, the law has always provided a remedy. No one disputes that. But a mass campaign targeting hundreds of people each month is something categorically different — and patently un-American.

We also talked about how the WH built its entire political brand on the idea that it's tough on illegal immigration, but respects the legal kind. The data has now called that bluff —thanks to illuminating research by @David_J_Bier, showing 72% of cuts came from LEGAL pathways.
We asked them to risk their lives for us. They did. We promised to bring them here. We haven't. Now we're offering them the Taliban or the DRC.   I joined @MSNOWNews to talk about the 1,100 Afghan allies -- including 400 kids -- waiting to see if the US will keep its promise.

NEW: The Trump administration is taking steps to accelerate the deportations of migrant children in US custody amid White House pressure to quickly move kids through the system, according to administration officials and lawyers for the children. cnn.com/2026/04/28/politics/…
