To all the people who think that a 15% overhead rate is reasonable: The cost to run a fume hood can vary depending on its size, usage, and location, but typically falls within a range of several thousand dollars per year; a standard 6-foot fume hood could cost around $5,000 (1/3)

direct costs. At NSF it wouldn't change much since there's a fine line between direct/indirect funds, but at the NIH that represents a significant decrease in funding. That doesn't take into account support staff and shared instrumentation which is supported this way (3/3).

- $10,000 annually to operate, with the primary expense being the energy needed to constantly exhaust large volumes of air. Assuming this reduced overhead rate, the University will probably be left with no choice but to charge me that directly, which then goes into my (2/3)
