The crystal engineering research group led by Prof. Mike Zaworotko. Main interests are metal-organic materials and multi-component pharmaceutical materials. @UL
What are MOFs and related materials good for?
Hydrocarbon separations is one answer as detailed in an in-depth review by @ZGroupUL in Adv Materials:

In short:
- The field has come an awfully long way since the 2000s
- It is complicated

Flexible sorbents of all types (molecular 1D network) are😎 to study can have 🌶️properties.
@zgroupUL members @KKoupepidou@sbnbkv have just published a feature article on functional flexible sorbents in @ChemComm: pubs.rsc.org/en/Content/Arti…
That is 2 papers in <24 h for KK!

1D coordination polymer H-bonds pi stacking = MOF as reported in @J_A_C_S by @zgroupUL and @brianbspace: pubs.acs.org/doi/full/10.102…
Congrats to @alan_eaby co-authors for revealing how this understudied but potentially vast family of materials can serve as H2O and CO2 sorbents.
They might be checking out, but they will never really leave.
@zgroupul says bon voyage to @KKoupepidou@XiaLi_Lisa who soon depart for 🇯🇵 🇨🇳 for the next chapter.
Both are great researchers and consummate team players which augurs well for their futures.
We 😍 ultramicroporous materials. A lot.
@ZGroupUL delighted to report with YL Peng of @CUP1953 in @NatureChemistry on sieving of C3 gases by a hybrid azolate framework, HAF-1, that has just the right pore size: rdcu.be/d0h3p
Doing different things feels pretty good.
🇨🇳 2024 visit by @zgroupul just over with lecture at China University of Petroleum, Beijing campus. Thanks YunLei Peng for being a great host.
2 weeks of literal blue skies beyond blue sky research in Lanzhou, Xi'an, Beijing and Tianjin.
Looking forward to 1 or 2 2025 visits.
Crystal engineering has come a long way both geographically and scientifically.
The first CELTIC China meeting was held on 11/03 in historic, beautiful Xi"an.
Past present @ZGroupUL members joined by Chen Xiao-Ming family to enjoy great people porous materials chemistry.
Travel in 2024 concludes with 🇨🇳 starting in Lanzhou. @ZGroupUL and @MukherjeeChem present lectures @iLZU1909. Wang Wei and Chen Shoushun are thanked for being such great hosts. Looking forward to future engagements.
Off we go now to Xi'an for the first CELTIC in 🇨🇳 meeting.
Two days of sunshine, porous materials and people chemistry. A great way to spend a weekend - the 3rd Texas Pore Engineering Conference hosted by @MiljanicGroup @UH_RimerGroup at @UHouston. Kicked off by @GroupZhou (20th Oct), closing shortly with a presentation by @zgroupUL.
CALF-20 strikes yet again - this time as a sieve for n-butene/iso-butene. Now out in @ACSMatLett:
pubs.acs.org/doi/10.1021/acs…@zgroupul is delighted to continue its partnership on design and properties of narrow pore sorbents with Yun Lei Peng group from @CUP1953
Brilliant 2 days of MOF presentations and brainstorming hosted by Neil and @UoBChemistry in their swanky new digs.
@ZGroupUL, @MACATAMO_Group @MukherjeeChem pleased to present participate in the discussions. Looking forward to future partnerships.
