Gary Rankin Resigns as Head Football Coach at Boyd-Buchanan School Chattanooga, TN — 2/11/2026 — Boyd-Buchanan School announced today that Gary Rankin has resigned as head football coach, concluding a highly successful and historic tenure leading the Buccaneers. A member of the National High School Hall of Fame, Rankin departs the program with 510 career victories, cementing his legacy as one of the most accomplished coaches in high school football history. During his time at Boyd-Buchanan, Rankin compiled an outstanding 43–7 overall record. Over the past three seasons, his teams posted a remarkable 36–3 mark, establishing the Buccaneers as one of Tennessee’s premier football programs. Under his leadership, Boyd-Buchanan reached the state semifinals in three of his four seasons, highlighted by a state finals appearance in 2023. Beyond the wins, Rankin fostered a culture rooted in discipline, accountability, and excellence. “Coach Rankin has informed me that he has decided to step down as our head football coach,” said Director of Athletics Matt Pobieglo. “I am extremely grateful to Gary for the hard work, dedication, and success we have shared. Coach Rankin has been an important part of the Boyd-Buchanan community, and we are thankful for the time, effort, and passion he and his family invested in our football program.
