Mammals & genomics. Diane Genereux and I distill it to (comparative) essentials in @broadinstitute public lecture “Clarity from comparison: How other animals' genomes illuminate our own.” Sadly, few @ZoonomiaProject species survived the #2021MMM #carnage youtu.be/YKjYFydrje0

Diane Genereux and I are talking #mammal #genomics (@ZoonomiaProject) @broadinstitute next week! Public lecture, open to all. @scribbler_tom now has me pondering what cool mammal trait I’d want to have. Echolocation? Hibernation? Ability to survive deep ocean dives?
What do other species' feats of physiology (think squirrels' ability to hibernate for MONTHS) have to do with human biology? Find out when I host @zoonomia scientists @eenork & Diane Genereux for our next #ScienceForAllSeasons.

First up, the western spotted skunk. Spilogale gracilis isn't a true hibernator (sorry @faunabio), but it's got a great strategy for avoiding the winter blues: snoozing for several weeks! We just may try that when the weather gets unbearable this year... doi.org/10.2307/1380869
