This past week, the leadership of the African Food Fellowship (@_AfricanFood) met in Nairobi to advance the transition to an independent African institution, following more than 5 years of incubation with Wageningen University (Netherlandss) and Wasafiri (Kenya). Building on proven concept, AFF is evolving into a continental platform for food systems leadership. Discussions addressed governance, financial resilience, AI applications, and the 2035 vision. I am so proud to be part of the team building this exciting institution. 🙌🏾

One message stood out clearly throughout the conversations - transformation will only happen when governments, private sector players, development partners, researchers, and communities work together with a shared vision.

An absolute pleasure to host you for an evening of such rich conversations, and to celebrate #foodsystemsleadership in action.
Strong food systems depend on collaboration, innovation and partnerships that connect policy, research and community impact. This evening, I joined leaders, researchers and fellows at the African Food Fellowship Engagement Forum to discuss the future of Kenya’s livestock industry and broader efforts to strengthen food systems across the region. We reflected on progress in dairy and meat exports, livestock vaccination, rangeland restoration, youth empowerment and market systems aimed at improving farmer incomes and access to markets. Government remains committed to building resilient and commercially viable livestock value chains that create more opportunities for farmers, women and youth. #FoodSystemsLeadership

PS @jmueke on the value of collaborations: “You bring people on board through continuous engagement. Listen to people, give them the right information, have healthy conversations. Don’t just do what you want, carry the people with you. It is not easy but you adjust as you go.”

PS @jmueke to Fellows: "Leaders in this sector, such as yourselves, need to step up as credible sources of information. You are trusted and your opinion matters." #foodsystemsleadership
