Most coaches get better at learning about coaching.
Not at coaching.
Every year, coaches pack into clinics.
Notebooks out.
Writing nonstop.
They leave feeling like they improved.
They didn't.
It's like asking a basketball player to sit in the stands during practice and take notes.
They'd know exactly what good looks like.
They still couldn't do it.
You can read every book ever written.
Attend every clinic.
Fill every notebook.
Doesn't matter.
Coaching is a skill.
Skills are built by doing.
Get reps.
Get feedback.
Get uncomfortable.
Treat yourself like you treat your athletes.

Imperative with deep corner spacing: corner players must get back (or crash) on the rise of the shot. Avoid hanging out in corners observing the outcome.

After 20 incredible years of leadership, mentorship, championships, and changing lives, Coach John Pigatti has decided to step away from the sidelines as Head Men’s Basketball Coach at South Suburban College.
Words truly can’t describe what this man means to so many people — players, families, coaches, and communities. Personally, I absolutely love this man because of what he has done for young Black men through basketball, education, mentorship, and opportunity. Privately, I affectionately call him “White Jesus” 👊🏽🤣🖤 because his impact has been nothing short of legendary.
And the numbers? They speak louder than words:
🏆 Career Record: 572-111 (.84)
🏆 Highest winning percentage and record among ANY college coach over the last 20 years
🏆 National Champion
🏆 Hall of Famer
🏆 Builder of men, not just basketball players
But statistics only tell part of the story.
His true legacy lives in the countless young men he guided toward degrees, scholarships, four-year schools, careers, and better futures.
South Holland will never be the same. Region IV basketball will never be the same.

What I love about sports, and coaching in general, is that there are numerous ways to do things. It really comes down to how well you execute what you’re trying to do
In all of my experience playing the game, I’ve never had a coach tell me that the shooter is also the first person back. When the shot goes up it’s on his perimeter teammates to be the first guy(s) back.
