100 buzzing Tories in the room for a fantastic evening with @Conservatives Shadow Minister @Katie_Lam_MP, @EJ_McGuinness and @_CitC. Loved the focus on risk capital, scaling businesses and discussions on what the next Tory manifesto will hold for UK equities. Great evening 👏👏

That’s a hat trick for @Keir_Starmer. All three of the authors of his Strategic Defence Review have now openly criticized the Labour government for woeful inaction on Defence spending. I wonder if people will be happy about the two child benefit cap being lifted, when the internet turns off because Russia severs all our underground cables…
EXCL: Fiona Hill, co-author of UK’s strategic defence review, has joined criticism of Keir Starmer’s leadership on military policy, warning of “bizarre” lack of urgency in defence planning. She echoed of Labour former defence sec & Nato sec gen George Robertson over what he had called the PM's “corrosive complacency”. @danielboffey theguardian.com/politics/202…

Prob for the best that @TiceRichard was abandoned by @Nigel_Farage as @reformparty_uk’s economic spokesperson given his tax “issues”. Importantly, these people want to run the country and they can’t even run their businesses properly, or make things whole. It’s sad really.
The deputy leader of Reform UK, Richard Tice, owns a property company - Quidnet REIT. From 2020 to 2022 it paid Tice and his trust £600k in dividends. Quidnet should have paid £120k of tax on those dividends. It didn't. A 🧵 with evidence from the company's own filings:

Reform be like … “Maths… boy I dunno”
Replying to @MelJStride
Reform claim this would conveniently pay for itself. They say the economic boost could mean £8bn of revenues over 10 years which "will easily repay the £2bn up-front cost." Except it's not an up-front cost, it's annual - a £2bn tax cut for 10 years costs £20bn. Oh dear. (3/7)

Claire is a Mayor - someone who controls a large budget. Here she notes a weekly increase in diesel prices of 5%. Diesel comes from oil which has increased ~9% in a week. On that metric their profit margin will DECREASE. We deserve better politicians than this.
This is @Tesco Ollerton. At the beginning of the week diesel was 150p, hiked up from the previous week. At lunchtime today it was 154p. This afternoon 156.9p. Its just one of many. So all power to @RachelReevesMP to stop this blatant profiteering.

Honoured to be the first speaker at the launch of City Forward tonight. Connecting with younger talent across financial services is a big opportunity for the @Conservatives - to hear directly from the people building their careers in the sector and understand the issues that matter most to them. Looking forward to keeping the conversation going.

.@RobertJenrick behind @KemiBadenoch again! Reform really stumbling in grabbing momentum because, when it really matters, they are populists without a real plan.
EXCL: Nigel Farage and Robert Jenrick will today pledge to reinstate the 5p fuel duty cut in Reform’s first budget should the party win power - paid for by slashing the Energy Department’s budget. Jenrick will claim to have found £13.5bn in Net Zero savings. Reform will take over a discount forecourt today to make the announcement and turn the screw on Rachel Reeves to reverse September’s hike. thesun.co.uk/money/38460698/…

£140 billion borrowed this year. Rachel Reeves has lost control of the public finances 👇🏻
Today’s @ONS data shows £140bn borrowed this year alone - record borrowing, outside the pandemic for the second year in a row. Only the @Conservatives have a credible plan to grip the benefits bill, reduce taxes and get borrowing down.

When I was in the Army, I had a few soldiers’s (Fijians) who had difficult names to pronounce. I learned how to pronounce them and asked them to correct me if I was wrong. Why? Because I show people respect. It’s lunacy to suggest behaving otherwise is “London” centric.
Anyone offended by an innocent mispronunciation of their name does need their head checking. This kind of London-centric, navel-gazing journalism is precisely why the mainstream media is dying. Britain is Broken and politicians are expected to answer this drivel.

Weird how Jenrick didn’t try to solve all these problems when he was *checks notes* a FUCKING government minister!?!
Jenrick speaks of his sadness to leave the “party of Pitt and Pell and Churchill and Thatcher” but that he must “serve the country I love” and join Reform

I’m told Kruger also defected after not getting a seat at the Shadow Cabinet table. As a @Conservatives I’m glad to see the barnacles being scraped from the boat. Farage can have the dregs.
EXC Nadhim Zahawi was denied a Conservative peerage weeks before he defected to Reform, Tory sources claim. Zahawi said to have made "multiple approaches" in late 2024, asking to be on the most recent political peerages list. "We were very clear he wasn’t going to get one.”

Laila posits in this argument with @michaelgove that she only stood as a councillor for Conservatives in 2022 because “Reform didn’t exist.” So then why did she also accept selection as the Conservative Parliamentary candidate in Rotherham in 2024?

It was great to co-host a round table on housing policy with shadow Minister @JamesCleverly a few weeks ago, alongside @avivaplc. A superb array of deep experts in the room gave same fresh ideas to take into 2026!

Reeves will be livid. She scheduled this budget so late because tomorrow is Thanksgiving and the US market will be closed. She’s just given traders 90mins to smash the UK gilt market… which is precisely what is going on, across the curve…
