Hamilton really deserves that win. The only one at the front willing to go aggressive, consistently great driving for the past few months, comprehensively outperforming a strong team-mate. Could have walked away demoralised by the old regulations but the new ones suit so well.

A collection of bizarre red cards and the worst set-piece ever taken is a hilarious and frankly excellent start to this tournament, all things considered.

Analysis here of what is happening in the absolutely nuts Real Madrid election, in which a solar power magnate went on a chat show featuring puppets and novelty variety acts to claim the likes of Haaland, Rodri, and Klopp will join the club if he wins 👇 bbc.co.uk/sport/football/art…

Have never in my life been more convinced that a footballer was missing a penalty than when Lucas Beraldo stepped up for number five and then he slotted it like he could have scored with his eyes closed. Fair play to him. Funny.

The manager going is for the best, including for him. That has been clear for months. But it is mostly desperately sad. He was responsible for giving so many people the best days of their lives. To go from the joy of a year ago, to all of the misery since then, is unfathomable.

Well, there goes the greatest footballer I've ever seen and probably ever will see. A genuinely life-changing nine years for all of us who grew up during the time he generated so much joy and so many adventures. A privilege that he chose to give his best to us. Alhamdulillah.

Think if I supported Hearts, once I'd stopped violently vomiting in a few days' time, I'd be getting very heavily into running or cycling on the weekends and would never watch a single game of football ever again.

There really can't be many places on the planet better to watch football. Gorgeous ground that always looks tremendous in the low sun.

There has been nothing to be learned about Liverpool for many months. They are a hopeless, miserable team and watching them is to be endured rather than enjoyed. Still, good news about the surprisingly good sausage rolls in the ground.

Let's all take a moment to pity the generations of poor football fans of the past who missed out on the clearly much improved "ooh, hang on a moment, let's give it a good slowed-down rewatch for several minutes and err on the side of caution" era of the game. A real golden age.
