BEFORE I WAKE, my 3rd short-story collection, has 14 stories. Three feature the hero of my PROTECTOR series. Others feature classic mystery figures such as Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. I wrote an intro to each. The collector’s ed sold out, but it’s available as an e-book & audio book.
My short story “The Corpse Collector” will be published in THE YEAR’S BEST AMERICAN MYSTERY AND SUSPENSE, edited by Megan Abbott and Steph Cha. Here’s the cover reveal and a link to pre-order the anthology, which will be published in October.

Discover the history of one of England’s most famous literary dwellings, Dove Cottage. It’s a location in RULER OF THE NIGHT, the final novel in my Victorian mystery/thriller series. I had fun creating photo essays for this & other locations in the series.

Fascinating that a short story by Pulitzer Prize-winning author Edith Wharton remained hidden until now. “The Men Who Saved the World,” about a dinner party in a French chateau as World War I winds down, was just published by The Strand.

The new deluxe 5-film Rambo 4K set includes both versions of IV and V. Sly’s director’s cut of IV is excellent. The reviewer agrees with me that the 5th movie is terrible. My audio commentary for FIRST BLOOD is included.

The short answer to why I wrote FIRST BLOOD: as a Penn State student, during anti-war riots, I met students returning from Vietnam w/PTSD. I decided to write a novel about a returning Vietnam veteran who brings the war to America. My website has more info.

I’m a huge fan of Stephen Sondheim so his new biography, STEPHEN SONDHEIM: Art Isn’t Easy, by Daniel Okrent, is on my summer reading list. “The book is brimming with delicious incident,” writes Emma Brockes in this rave review for The Guardian.
