Happy #ScreenshotSaturday everyone! Post a screenshot in the comments and let's share some indie love!
Dream Loop is a first-person adventure set inside a lucid dreamscape. The gameplay is exploring surreal environments with a tape recorder, collecting sounds and mixing them into original looping tracks. That's the main puzzle mechanic: gathering sounds from the environment and figuring out which ones work together to advance in the game. All of the music is original, created by me! π

I'm looking for fans of MYST! I'm working on a game that is heavily inspired by Myst called Dream Loop, and I want to know what emotions you felt when you first played Myst, whatever your age may have been. Let me know in the comments!

Gamedev Story Time!
I have a mantra that pops up often: creativity springs from limitation. I've often found that being boxed into a corner forces me to think creatively.
While working on Dream Loop, I encountered a problem when attempting to have my player hop onto floating islands. Most of the islands in the game are fixed/unmoving, but there are a few that float around. When the player hops onto these floating islands, they started to slide off, and despite making my player a child of the moving islands (and trying a few other adjustments), I couldn't find a consistent fix.
I started to think: If the floating islands had a reason to stop moving, that would solve my problem. But why would they stop? So I came up with a sort of "time freeze/dimensional flip" effect, so that it feels like time suddenly comes to a standstill and the player is instantly transported to what feels like another dimension. I'm pretty thrilled with how it turned out! It's honestly a much more dynamic and exciting a moment than if the player had just stepped onto the floating islands and kept walkin' along in the same environment.
When has being boxed in forced you to think outside of the box?
